Description
Comprising Greatmead Copse only, the vegetation type is W8 Fraxinus excelsior - Acer campestre – Mercurialis perennis woodland (Hall et. al. 2004). The rich ground flora dominated by Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta), Dog's Mercury (Mercurialis perennis), Goosegrass (Gallium aparine), Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum) and Ivy (Hedera helix) are frequent, the understory is predominately Hazel (Corylus avellana) and the canopy is dominated by Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and Field Maple (Acer campestre) with frequent Oak (Quercus sp.) with over-mature Hazel (Corylus avellana) coppice. Soils are predominantly wet, gleyed clays and litter is sparse.
