Comments: Stotler & Crandall-Stotler (1977): "Plagiochilla asplenioides (p.p. excl. lectotypo) which is commonplace in the numerous floras and manuals of North America is replaced by P. porelloides which is typified by a New York specimen. Plagiochila asplenioides s. str. still does exist in the North American flora but is restricted to the Pacific Northwest with only those plants previously determined as P. major being assignable to that taxon." Favreau and Brassard (1988) recognize the synonym, P. asplenioides ssp. porelloides.
