Description

Comprising Greatmead Copse only, the vegetation type is W8 Fraxinus excelsior - Acer campestreMercurialis perennis woodland (Hall et. al. 2004) with nearly complete ground cover of Ivy (Hedera helix), approximate to W8d sub-community, characteristic of regenerated areas. The understory is fairly well developed with Hazel (Corylus avellana), Spindle (Euonymus europaea) and Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) frequent, the canopy consists of Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and Field Maple (Acer campestre) with occasional Oak (Quercus sp.)

Soil: Predominantly gleyed clay soils.
